12-2-1 ‘Crazy Bear’ Stav Economou is the UK’s 5th ranked heavyweight, and is known for his exciting style and knockout power, as proven by the eight stoppage wins on his record. This Friday night on the Dubai Fighting Championship’s first event, he’ll partake in his biggest contest to date, as he faces former UFC champion Ricco Rodriguez. Stav took the hotseat for this week’s ‘Getting To Know…’

Age started MMA: 18.
Gym you train at: Team Sure Grip.
Background in Martial Arts/Sport before MMA: None.
First memory in MMA: Running to the cage for my first fight all hyped up, but being really cautious about the wires on the floor leading to the cage as I didn't want to trip over them.
Best MMA Memory: Winning at Cage Rage at Wembley Arena. I’d never heard a crowd react in such a way to a fight before.
Funniest MMA memory: My fourth fight. I had my opponent clinched up against the fence. I noticed my friend sitting at one of the VIP tables eating off a platter, and wondered what he was eating.
Toughest fighter fought: Neil Grove.
Average training routine: Training twice a day Monday-Saturday and working in between sessions. These involve lots of BJJ, padwork and heavy sparring.
Inspirations: Don't have any really.
Favourite MMA fighter past: Ken Shamrock.
Favourite MMA fighter present: Alistair Overeem.
Best MMA fight seen: Shogun Rua vs Dan Henderson.
Pre fight routine: Usually sleeping.
Top three songs: ‘Overthrown’ by Man of Kin, ‘Impirium’ by Machine Head and ‘Next Hype’ by Tempa T (Devnik Remix).
Favourite book: Don’t really have one; I suppose ‘Have A Nice Day’ by Mick Foley.
Favourite film: ‘The Avengers.’
Favourite holiday destination: Cyprus.
Favourite food when in training: Thai orange steak.
Favourite food when out of training: Chinese or KFC.
What car do you drive: Don't drive.
Day job as well as MMA: Restaurant manager.
Which football team do you support: Don't have one.
Sports you enjoy apart from MMA: Bowls.
